The 5th session of the Joint Morocco-Bahrain High Commission: highlights of the Joint Statement

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, co-chaired, on January 26, 2023 in Manama, the 5th session of the High Morocco-Bahrain Joint Commission, which culminated in the adoption of a Joint Statement.

The holding of the 5th session of the High Joint Commission comes in the wake of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two kingdoms.

The session was an opportunity to discuss the historical and close fraternal relations between the two Kingdoms and the distinguished level of bilateral cooperation in all fields, under the High Patronage and High Directives of the leaders of the two countries, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and his brother His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The two parties have also discussed ways to raise these relations, especially in the fields of industry, agriculture, tourism, health, education, higher education, media, youth, sports, transport, aviation and information and communication technologies, in order to achieve common goals and interests.

The Kingdom of Bahrain commended the continuous efforts made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to defend the city of Al-Quds, preserve its cultural identity and its status as a symbol of tolerance and coexistence between the different monotheistic religions.

Bahrain also welcomed the humanitarian and social projects implemented by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, the executive arm of the Committee, for the benefit of Maqdissis.

The two sides reiterated their "constant position and support for the Palestinian cause, calling for the need to achieve a lasting and comprehensive political solution that guarantees the Palestinian people's right to establish its independent state, with East Al-Quds as its capital, on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy relating thereto and the Arab Peace Initiative."

The Kingdom of Bahrain hailed the pioneering role played by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in consolidating the foundations of sustainable development on the African continent. The State of Bahrain praised the role of His Majesty the King in consolidating the foundations of peace, security and stability in Africa to meet the aspirations of its peoples to progress and development.

The Kingdom of Bahrain reiterated its firm and constant support to Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Moroccanness of the Sahara, as well as to Morocco's efforts to reach a realistic political solution to this issue based on compromise and the relevant Security Council resolutions, under the aegis of the UN Secretary-General.

Bahrain supports the autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara within the framework of the Kingdom's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as a solution in accordance with international law and the resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly.

Manama also expressed its rejection of any attack on the supreme interests of the Kingdom of Morocco, its sovereignty or territorial integrity.

For its part, the Kingdom of Morocco reiterated its highest consideration for the Kingdom of Bahrain following the opening, in December 2020, of a consulate general in the city of Laayoune, upon the high instruction of the Bahraini Sovereign, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, as an affirmation of Bahrain's commitment to support the legitimate rights of the Kingdom of Morocco and an illustration of the depth of the solid historical relations between the two brotherly kingdoms.

In this sense, the two parties affirmed "the common will and mutual determination to promote and develop the processes of bilateral cooperation in all areas and sectors of development, as well as their constant willingness to consolidate bilateral cooperation relations in the political and diplomatic fields, joint coordination for the exchange of support within regional and international organizations and bodies, in the service of the common interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples. They also stressed the importance of developing economic, trade and investment relations, and invite businessmen to invest in the opportunities and potential offered in both countries.

In this regard, they stressed the need for continued cooperation and joint coordination in addressing all global challenges, and the importance of establishing international relations on the basis of mutual respect, adherence to the rules of good neighborliness, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and rejection of foreign interference in the affairs of other countries, as well as strengthening concerted efforts in the fight against terrorism and extremism, and preventing the spread of nuclear weapons in the region.

The two sides reviewed the political and security developments, challenges and crises facing the Arab countries, and their repercussions on security and stability in the region, and stressed the importance of continuing to work together to strengthen joint Arab action to face all challenges, They also stressed the importance of mutual coordination to support the efforts and aspirations of the international community to achieve peaceful settlements to the crises it faces, so as to restore security and stability, preserve territorial integrity, protect the potential and achievements of the peoples, and ensure peace, development and prosperity for the countries of the region.
