Foreign Interference Undermines Efforts to Restore Stability in Libya
Foreign interference undermines efforts aimed at restoring stability in Libya, said Wednesday in Rabat minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita.

"Morocco, which has already expressed its position on the Libyan crisis, considers that foreign interference, including military, complicates the situation in Libya and undermines international efforts aimed at settling this crisis", Bourita pointed out at a press briefing following talks with Greek foreign minister, Nikos Dendias.

For Morocco, "the solution in Libya cannot be military", he said, adding that this solution "can only be political and made by the Libyans themselves, as was demonstrated in Skhirat, with the support of the international community".

The minister, who warned against the exploitation of the suffering of the Libyan people, said Morocco regrets that "some parties force the Libyans to take positions and legal obligations which do not serve the interests of the Libyan people", wondering in this regard on "the conformity of these legal commitments with the Skhirat agreement".

These legal commitments and political positions to which some parties are trying to lead the Libyan government and the various factions in this country "serve foreign agendas which have nothing to do with the interests of the Libyan people, nor with the stability and peace that the Libyans are seeking," he said.

Consequently, "we are today at a crucial stage that requires coordination and the removal of Libya and Libyans from the agendas and legal commitments which do not serve neither stability nor peace in this country," Bourita added.

The minister said he had agreed with the Greek top-diplomat to "coordinate positions on the Libyan crisis", adding that the two parties have also agreed to work together "to achieve a political solution based on the Skhirat agreement, which so far remains the only successful diplomatic experience in dealing with the Libyan issue."

Regarding the Berlin meeting on Libya, Bourita noted that it will be the "7th international meeting since Skhirat", expressing the hope that this meeting will not be doomed to the same fate as the previous ones.

This meeting should be "followed by responsible action to achieve practical solutions based on the Skhirat agreement", he insisted.
