Rabat, (MoFA, Statement) - Ambassador Mohamed Methqal, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, has been appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General as a member of the Advisory Group of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).

This is the first time that Morocco will be represented in this body composed of 18 experts and whose mission is to provide the UN Chief with periodic policy guidance and expert advice on the use and impact of CERF.

Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005 as the United Nations global emergency response fund, CERF enables humanitarian responders to deliver life-saving assistance whenever and wherever crises strike.

It is a new sign of recognition and tribute to the action and sincere commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, in supporting humanitarian action for the most vulnerable populations in the four continents.

This unwavering commitment has recently been reflected through high-impact humanitarian actions, such as the delivery, following the high instructions of the Sovereign, of a medical aid to twenty-two African countries in the context of COVID-19 and the deployment of a military field hospital in Beirut in the wake of the explosion that hit the Lebanese capital on August 10, 2020.

This new appointment also follows other marks of confidence enjoyed on the international scene by renown Moroccan experts and competences in various fields, including that of humanitarian interventions and their management.

Thanks to his strong experience in the field of strategy and management consulting, Ambassador Mohamed Methqal has been able to develop, since his appointment in 2016 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, as Director General of the Moroccan International Cooperation Agency, an outstanding expertise in the management of South-South cooperation and humanitarian action, which are among the major pillars of the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Ambassador Methqal coordinates the Kingdom's international projects in terms of technical cooperation and capacity building, technical assistance in carrying out human development projects and the deployment of international humanitarian actions covering nearly ten countries on average each year.
