Cairo, (MOFA) - The League of Arab States welcomed on Monday the efforts to make headway with the political dialogue between the Libyan parties.

In a statement, the League of Arab States affirmed that it "follows the Libyan dialogue which began Sunday in Bouznika, south of the Moroccan capital, Rabat, at the invitation of the Kingdom of Morocco, and which brought together the delegations of the Libyan Parliament and the High Council of State, in order to make headway with a political solution following the reference of the Skhirat agreement and to follow up on the various proposed initiatives aimed at achieving the desired peaceful settlement of the situation in the country".

In its press release, the General Secretariat of the Arab League called on all the Libyan parties to continue their commitments in good faith in all these efforts to achieve a national and integrated solution to the Libyan crisis on the security, political and economic levels and under the auspices of the United Nations, in such a way as to complete the transitional phase that the country is going through which will be crowned by the organization of legislative and presidential elections.

The Libyan dialogue between the delegations of the Libyan High Council of State and the Parliament of Tobruk started Sunday in Bouznika.  This dialogue aims to maintain the ceasefire and open negotiations to end the conflicts between the Libyan parties.

It comes a few weeks after the visit to Morocco of the President of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled Al Mechri and the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Aguila Salah, at the invitation of the speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives.  The Libyan dialogue also follows the visit to Morocco of the Special Representative and interim Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Stéphanie Williams, as part of the consultations she is leading with the Libyan parties, as well as with regional and international partners in order to find a solution to the Libyan crisis.
