A Moroccan delegation led by the Director of Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Ismail Chekkori, held talks on May 31, 2023 in Abu Dhabi, with Emirati officials, within the framework of the preparation for COP 28 set to be held in the UAE next November.

The Moroccan delegation included the Secretary General of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, Ms. Nouzha Alaoui, the Foundation's Director of Partnerships, Ms. Kenza Khalafi, the Director of Partnership, Communication and Cooperation at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Mr. Rachid Firadi, and the Director of Climate Change, Biodiversity and the Green Economy at the Ministry, Mr. Razi Bouzkari.

Members of the delegation held talks with Sultan Al-Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates, President-designate of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 28), Mr. Adnan Amin, CEO of COP 28 and Mr. Majid Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the Conference.

These two-day meetings, which were also attended by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Mr. Abdelilah Oudades, provided an opportunity to study concrete ways of supporting the Emirati presidency of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 28), and to prepare for a distinguished participation of the Kingdom of Morocco in this conference.

During these meetings, the Moroccan experience in organizing the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 22) was reviewed, and the initiatives taken by the Kingdom and the partnerships it has forged in the fight against climate change were highlighted.

In this respect, Emirati officials expressed their consideration and appreciation for Morocco's involvement and commitment, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in international and regional efforts to combat climate change.

Morocco-Emirati relations, whose foundations were laid by the late HM Hassan II and the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, are characterized by their historical and cultural depth.

These intense relations are known for their constant development in all fields under the reign of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and his brother Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.
