MFA Nasser Bourita Holds Talks with Gabonese Counterpart
Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita held talks on May 6th, 2021, by videoconference, with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, Francophonie, Regional Integration and Gabonese Abroad, Pacome Moubelet Boubeya, as part of the continued strengthening of Moroccan-Gabonese strategic relations.

Based on historical fraternity relations, whose foundations were set by the late HM King Hassan II and His Brother the late His Excellency President Omar Bongo Ondimba, this strategic partnership is now enshrined by HM King Mohammed VI and His Brother President Ali Bongo Ondimba.

During this meeting, the two ministers highlighted the importance of supporting the close political cooperation through the strengthening of trade and investment between Morocco and Gabon, which are positioned as key players in terms of regional integration in Africa,

In this regard, the two ministers have agreed to start preparations for the large joint Commission that will focus on the development of economic networking between Morocco and Gabon. They stressed the importance of promoting mechanisms and tools for exchange and cooperation between the business communities of both countries, with a view to organizing an economic forum.

Both officials expressed satisfaction with the fact that their views on the various regional and international issues of common interest were in perfect agreement. Regarding the Sahara issue, the Moroccan minister lauded Gabon's unwavering support for the moroccanness of the Sahara and its firm commitment to supporting efforts to find a lasting solution to this dispute, within the Kingdom's sovereignty and under the exclusive auspices of the United Nations.

The two ministers stressed the imperative of respecting the norms and procedures within the bodies of the African Union and reaffirmed the relevance of Decision 693 of the AU Heads of State and Government Summit, dated July 2018, which enshrined the exclusivity of the UN as the framework for the search of a solution to the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

For his part, the Gabonese minister welcomed the unfailing solidarity between the two countries, reflecting the shared will of the two Heads of State to make bilateral relations a model of inter-African cooperation, based on the values of exchange and sharing. As such, agreeing to mutually support the Moroccan and Gabonese bids at the level of regional and international bodies, Pacome Moubelet-Boubeya expressed the unconditional support of Gabon to the candidacy of Morocco for the position of Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation within the African Union Commission.
