Launching of a cooperation program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the two houses of Parliament in Rabat

A cooperation program in the diplomatic field was launched on December 7, 2022 in Rabat, between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates and the two Houses of Parliament.

A meeting, held at the headquarters of the House of Representatives, was marked by the presence of the Vice President of the Lower House, Mr. Hassan Benomar, and the Ambassador Director General of Bilateral Relations and Regional Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Fouad Yazourh, as well as deputies and councillors representing various parliamentary groups.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Benomar said that this inaugural meeting on cooperation in the diplomatic field is the result of the partnership agreement signed between the Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, welcoming in this regard the achievements of the Parliament in terms of parliamentary diplomacy.

In this context, he noted that the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors "are committed to support the distinguished diplomacy under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI," stressing that the Moroccan parliament "has strengthened its presence in international multilateral parliamentary institutions," based on the fact that the two Houses regularly participate in meetings and conferences in more than 30 international parliamentary institutions.

Parliamentary diplomacy now plays a leading role in unifying efforts, coordinating positions, creating initiatives, converging views and developing organizational mechanisms, to meet external challenges, strengthen the position of Morocco and make its voice heard internationally, he argued.

For his part, Mr. Yazourh said that "Moroccan diplomacy under the leadership of His Majesty the King has made significant achievements," stressing the need to take advantage of strengths to make more achievements and victories.

In this line, he highlighted the role of parliament in supporting the dynamics of Moroccan diplomacy, especially in terms of bilateral relations within the framework of parliamentary friendship groups, noting that the diversity and pluralism within the Moroccan parliament are in favour of the defense of the vital interests of the Kingdom.

In addition, he noted that the defense of the interests of Moroccan expatriates in the framework of a complementary and integrated vision between Parliament and the various sectors, is among the main priorities of Moroccan diplomacy.

For their part, the parliamentary deputies welcomed the achievements of Moroccan diplomacy under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

In their speeches, parliamentarians have emphasized the role of parliament in defending the Kingdom's territorial integrity and promoting major development projects conducted by the Kingdom, stressing the need for coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Parliament, to ensure greater efficiency of parliamentary diplomacy.
