Joint Communiqué: MFA Nasser Bourita receives his Surinamese counterpart

H.E Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco and H.E Albert Ramdin Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname held a meeting on May 25, 2022, in Rabat.

During this meeting, the two Ministers highly appraised the present level of bilateral relations in all fields. They discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Suriname to meet the respective aspirations and ambitions of the Governments of the two friendly countries.

In this respect, H.E. Albert Ramdin expressed the great appreciation of the Republic of Suriname for the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for a south-south cooperation, based on effectiveness, solidarity and pragmatism. H.E. Albert Ramdin affirmed the importance of the Royal vision to contribute to sustainable development in the Caribbean region through tangible socioeconomic projects.

Minister Bourita and Minister Ramdin expressed their willingness to further deepen and consolidate bilateral cooperation through exchange of experience and expertise in different fields of common interest.

Furthermore, the two Ministers discussed a broad range of international and multilateral issues and agreed to continue the political consultations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Suriname and to coordinate their positions on the multilateral level in international and regional fora. They also agreed to coordinate their action to promote regional cooperation between the African and the Caribbean countries.

It is within this Spirit that the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Suriname proceeded, in March 2021, to the adoption of the Roadmap of Cooperation for the period 2021-2024 to further boost the positive ongoing dynamic relationship and to reinforce the already existing ties between the two countries. Establishing this framework was inspired by the success story of the Roadmap initiative lead by Morocco in the Caribbean region. Both officials expressed their deep satisfaction with this Roadmap Agreement as well as their firm commitment to its implementation.

In this spirit, the Government of the Republic of Suriname has opened an Embassy in Rabat in order to give a new dynamic and strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Concerning the regional dispute on the Moroccan Sahara, Minister Bourita informed Minister Ramdin of the latest developments and underlined the international community’s support to Morocco’s Autonomy Plan under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco, as the unique basis for a consensual political solution to the regional dispute. Minister Bourita reiterated the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to the ongoing political process under the exclusive auspices of the United Nations.

H.E. Albert Ramdin, reaffirmed the recognition of the Republic of Suriname of the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Moroccan Sahara. Additionally, Minister Ramdin expressed the full support of the Republic of Suriname to the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, as the unique basis for a political solution to this regional dispute, in full respect of Morocco’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

In this spirit, the Government of the Republic of Suriname has opened a General Consulate in Dakhla.

H.E. Albert Ramdin expressed appreciation to the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for its hospitality and consideration expressed during his official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
