Morocco takes part in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition on the Defeat of ISIS
Washington 03.22.2017

The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Nasser Bourita, took part, Wednesday 22 March 2017 in Washington D.C, in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition on the Defeat of ISIS.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Bourita stressed that this ministerial meeting was an opportunity to highlight the multidimensional approach of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in accordance with a vision based on an international, regional and bilateral cooperation.

In this respect, the Minister Delegate stated that Morocco, under the leadership of the Sovereign, has for years developed a vision based on the different dimensions of counter-terrorism, while taking into consideration the preventive side, notably the promotion of socio-economic development, the strengthening of the rule of law, as well as the repressive aspect, which involves the upgrading of the legal framework, in addition to the security dimension, thanks to the effective action of Moroccan security services.

Mr. Bourita also underlined that the Washington meeting is taking place at a "very important" time, highlighting the efforts of the international community to combat terrorism in general and ISIS in particular, while recalling that Morocco is part of this international effort.

Furthermore, Mr. Bourita noted that as a result of this international action, important progress has been achieved, since the control of the Syrian and Iraqi territories by ISIS has decreased by 60 and 40 pc.

The Minister Delegate pointed out that the flow of terrorists has greatly diminished, while stressing that this decrease is due mainly to concerted action by the international community, adding that a strong pressure is being exercised on the military and financial capacities of this terrorist group.

Mr. Bourita wished to point out that much remains to be done in terms of ideology, which continues to attract a large number of people from several countries, and also in terms of action outside Syria and Iraq.
