The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Nasser Bourita, held talks, on Tuesday 30 May 2017 in Rabat, with the UN Special Representative for International Migration, Mrs. Louise Arbor.
On this occasion, Mrs. Arbour stated that Morocco plays an important role in international talks on migratory issues, noting that Morocco has much to offer in this process as an origin, transit and host country that has managed all aspects of international migration.
The UN official termed the talks with Mr. Bourita as very fruitful, stressing that the meeting touched also on the upcoming Global Compact on Migration.
For his part, Mr. Bourita commended the fact that Mrs. Arbour chose Morocco as a destination for her first official visit. He also said that granting this important position to a seasoned lady could provide more insight for the international community to approach the migration issue.
He also recalled that His Majesty King Mohammed VI launched in 2013 a new migratory policy which won international and regional renown.
The Minister also mentioned that Morocco is today the co-chair of the Global Forum on Migration and Development and the initiator of Rabat process on migration and development, while stressing that for Morocco, the migration issue should be handled within the framework of "international responsibility and solidarity".
