The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, officially announced, during his participation in the plenary, held on Thursday December 10th 2015 in Paris, within the framework of the COP21, the organization of the COP22, from the 7th to the 18th of November 2016 in Marrakesh.
In this regard, Mr. Mezouar indicated that Morocco has always been committed to the fight against climate change, had hosted the COP7 in 2001, and that it will be honored to organize the COP22, from the 7th to the 18th of November 2016, in Marrakesh, which has hosted historic multilateral events and constitutes a crossroad between the East and the West.
The Minister furthermore underlined that Morocco is committed to act, hand in hand and in an inclusive manner with all the parties, especially the French chairmanship, so that the COP22 is a successful meeting on an African and Arab soil, bearer of hope for a solidarity-based and a strong international action for the planet.
Mr. Mezouar added that the 2016 Marrakesh program vision will be presented after the results of the negotiations, expressing the wish to see the COP21 culminate into a universal, fair, and inclusive agreement.
On this occasion, he thanked all the parties to the UN framework convention on climate change, particularly the African group, which « brought its precious support » to the Moroccan candidacy during the COP20 in Lima.
The COP21, which is held from the 30th of November to the 11th of December, must adopt an agreement allowing to maintain global warming under 2°C until 2100.
