The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mrs Mbarka Bouaida, held talks, on Monday, May the 25th, 2015, in Rabat, with China’s Special Envoy on Middle East , Mr. Gong Xiaosheng, who is paying a working visit to Morocco .
During the meeting, both sides welcomed the excellent bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the People’s Republic of China.
Talks focused on regional and international issues of common interest, namely the issue of the threats posed by violent extremism in Iraq and Syria.
The two officials also discussed the situation in Yemen and Libya, while stressing the role played by Morocco in the Libyan issue, especially through the various rounds of dialogue held between the Libyan parties in Morocco.
The peace process in the Middle East was also discussed in this meeting, during which both sides stressed the need to achieve a final settlement that will guarantee stability to all peoples of the region.
Concerning the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the Chinese official expressed his country's support to a political solution in conformity with the relevant UN resolutions, to achieve a just, lasting and acceptable settlement.
Furthermore, Mr. Gong Xiaosheng underlined the "very big convergences" of views between Morocco and China about bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common interest, indicating, in this regard, that the choice of the Kingdom as a first step in his tour in the North African region "illustrates the importance Beijing gives to Morocco, given its position and influence within the region."
