Le Parlement péruvien salue la décision américaine de reconnaître la souveraineté du Maroc sur son Sahara
Lima- The Peruvian Parliament has welcomed the US decision to recognize the full sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara and to open a consulate in the city of Dakhla.

"We congratulate the Kingdom and welcome the decision of the United States of America to officially recognize the full and complete sovereignty of Morocco over the Sahara, and to open a consulate in the city of Dakhla", said a motion adopted by the Peruvian parliament, which reiterated its support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco as "the only realistic and viable solution" with a view to achieving a solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In the motion, presented by the Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, the legislative institution also welcomed the reactivation of the mechanisms of relations with Israel, welcoming the commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the US President Donald Trump to work together to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.

In the same regard, the Peruvian Parliament commended the content of His Majesty the King's telephone conversation with the President of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, during which the Sovereign reiterated his support for the preservation of the special status of the city of Al Quds Acharif, as well as the Kingdom's position and its strong commitment to stability and peace in the Middle East.

The Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group stressed that the recognition by the United States of the sovereignty of Morocco over its southern provinces is a historic step which enshrines a pragmatic and fair policy of the Kingdom, as well as the autonomy plan within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, noting that this decision, which is the result of intense consultations between His Majesty the King and President Trump, is a major turning point on the way to reaching a solution to the artificial dispute over the territorial integrity of Morocco.

The Friendship Group highlighted the growing international support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara, in particular through the opening by many countries of general consulates in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla, stressing that the autonomy initiative is in line with Security Council resolutions aimed at putting an end to this regional conflict.

In addition, the Parliamentary Group observed that the US decision takes place following the peaceful, decisive and legitimate intervention of Morocco in the region of El Guergarat to preserve security and stability in this part of Moroccan territory, as well as to restore the free movement of people and goods between the Kingdom and other African countries.
