Liberal International welcomes Morocco’s initiative of autonomy and condemns the calls for violence by "polisario" in the region
In a statement issued on November 17th, the organization condemns the “breach of the ceasefire agreement by the "polisario" which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, an act of banditry in the border zone”.
"The obstruction of the movement of people and goods across the Moroccan-Mauritanian border compromises economic development and weakens efforts to improve human rights standards," stated the organization, while calling for "the parties to respect UN resolution 2414, adopted in 2018, where the UN has urged separatists to immediately withdraw from the buffer zone of El Guergarat".
In addition, the vice-president of the Liberal International, Hans Van Baalen, said that the "polisario front should respect the UN ceasefire agreement." "We should support Moroccan peace initiatives because it’s vital for peace in the wider region, including Europe", Mr. Van Baalen concluded.
