The two Ministers held a joint press briefing, at the end of the inauguration ceremony, MFA Nasser Bourita affirmed that “this opening is an important event, but far from surprising, because it perfectly embodies Bahrain's unwavering position, which always stands alongside Morocco”.

The Minister recalled that the opening of the Consulate of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Laayoune comes few days after the historic decision of the United States of America to recognize the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its Sahara.

This inauguration, as the Minister underlined, is "the concretization of the latest phone call between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Brother, His Majesty Hamad Ben Issa Al Khalifa, during which the Sovereign of Bahrain welcomed the peaceful intervention ordered by His Majesty the King in the region of El Guergarat, in the Moroccan Sahara”.

For his part, the Bahraini Minister welcomed "this historical step that shows the profound relations between the two countries, and confirms the full support of Bahrain with Morocco in its historical and legitimate rights over its Sahara".

He reaffirmed in this regard that his country "has been and will always remain alongside Morocco" in the defense of its territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its territory.

MFA Al Zayani noted that His Majesty Hamad Ben Issa Al Khalifa had welcomed the recognition by the United States of the full sovereignty of Morocco over all of its Sahara and the upcoming opening of an American Consulate General in the city of Dakhla

Recalling the constant position of Bahrain and Morocco on the Palestinian question, the Bahraini minister highlighted “the support of the two countries for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to an independent state with Al-Quds Al-sharif as its capital, in the framework of international law and the Arab initiative of two-state solution”.
