During their meeting, the two officials exchanged views on the various aspects of Moroccan-American relations and ways to strengthen them. The Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Governor of Oued Eddahab province, Mr. Lamine Benomar and the presidents of the elected councils, also took part in this meeting.
On this occasion, MFA Nasser Bourita emphasized the historical nature of Mr. Schenker's visit to Dakhla, who is the first US senior official to visit the Moroccan Sahara. "This important event concretizes the phone call between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and US President Trump on December 10th, 2020" added the Minister.
For his part, Mr. Schenker praised the excellent relations between the two countries which are experiencing unprecedented development thanks to the far-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him. The US official also praised His Majesty's Leadership and His invaluable support on issues of common interest such as peace in the Middle East and stability in Africa.
This visit, which comes just one month after the phone call with His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God assist Him, with President Donald Trump on December 10, was also an opportunity for Mr. Schenker and the American Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. David Fischer to visit the premises that could house the Consulate General of the United States in Dakhla.
At the end of the visit to the premises, Mr. Fischer stressed, during a press briefing that "the process of opening a new consulate is not one that we take lightly", noting that Dakhla deserves a similar commitment to that made in Casablanca" where we are making significant investments to build a new consulate, equal to the size of this city".
The American Ambassador also expressed his thanks to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God assist Him, "whose firm dedication to the American-Moroccan friendship was essential to make this visit possible."
